Before I lived in Portland I came for a vist to check the place out. Some friends planned an exciting evening out on the town to show me the best Portland had to offer. Among those stops was The Alibi. I have to say with all honesty that the decor inside that place is one of the best I've ever seen. It is a tiki lounge all the way, original lucite from 1970, cool light fixtures as far as the eye could see. It's kitch, but it's the real thing, and that's what made me love it so. An interesting tid bit is that The Alibi has been operated under lease from the property owner since the 1980s, and the lease agreement has stated that the decor must remain intact.
Located on Interstate Ave, I can totally imaging that strip bustling with activity before the 5 came through town. With all the strange little motels sprinkled in that area, it only seems appropriate that it is home to Portland's finest tiki lounge. The place also serves a yummy specialty cocktail menu, and fancies itself a karaoke bar to boot.
By the way, after my first visit to The Alibi my friends saw it fitting to take me up the road to the Dancin' Bare. I can't figure out if they were trying to get me to move here or scare me away forever... but I guess Portland won out that night afterall.
